چکیده

In the previous paper (Bremner & Marshall, 1974) the effects of variations in copper and zinc status of ruminants on the distribution of the metals among soluble hepatic proteins were described. Three fractions ( I-3), with approximate molecular weights of 3 7 j ooo,35 ooo and I z 000, were isolated by gel filtration on Sephadex G-75 but none of these was fully characterized. The distributions of the Cu and Zn were closely related as, for example, Zn was absent from, or present in only low concentration in fraction 3 in high-Cu as well as in Zn-deficient livers. Variable amounts of Cu occurred in this fraction, which is identified in this paper as a metallothionein-like protein. The total amount of Cu and Zn present in fraction 3 has been found to be a function of liver Zn concentration.

Studies on the Appearance of a Copper-Binding Protein in Rat Liver

Studies on metalloproteins in ruminant livers showed the relationship between the total amount of zinc and copper present in a metallothionein-like fraction (designated fraction 111) and the zinc content of livers can be described by the equation y = 0.74~-0.25 (s.E. of regression coefficient = h0.04, P<O.OOl), where y is the number of g-atoms of Cu+Zn in fraction III/g of fresh liver and x is ...

Metabolism of cadmium, zinc and copper in the rat kidney: the role of metallothionein and other binding sites.

Studies were undertaken to determine the effect of host zinc deficiency upon the distribution of Cd, Zn and Cu between and within male rat kidney cytosol and unfractionated cell pellet. In the first experiment male rates were fed stock diets supplemented with 100 micrograms Cd/mL in the drinking water for 30 days. Then Cd-treated rats and controls were segregated into groups, which received sem...

Cellular response of antioxidant metalloproteins in Cu/Zn SOD transgenic mice exposed to hyperoxia.

Ceruloplasmin, metallothionein, and ferritin are metal-binding proteins with potential antioxidant activity. Despite evidence that they are upregulated in pulmonary tissue after oxidative stress, little is known regarding their influence on trace metal homeostasis. In this study, we have used copper- and zinc-containing superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn SOD) transgenic-overexpressing and gene knockou...

Correlation of chromium, zinc and copper with length, weight, age and gender in muscle of white fish (Rutilus kutum) captured from northern and southern Anzali wetlands

Heavy metals such as copper and zinc are essential for fish and human metabolism. But excessive concentrations of heavy metals impair ecosystems as some of those cause potential bioaccumulation in live beings. Fish are the major inhabitants in water bodies and can be highly affected by these toxic pollutants. The presence of these contminations in fish is known to cause various diseases in huma...

Differential Gene-Expression of Metallothionein 1M and 1G in Response to Zinc in Sertoli TM4 Cells

Background: Zinc (Zn) as an important trace element is essential for testicular development and spermatogenesis. Molecular mechanism of Zn action in the reproductive system may be related to metal binding low-molecular weight proteins, metallothioneins (MT). Our objective was to determine the effect of Zn on two important isoforms of MT, MT1M and MT1G genes expression on testicular sertoli cell...
